Position Responsibilities
Sakhi is hiring a Volunteer and Staff Development Coordinator to ensure Sakhi has the staff, intern, and volunteer resources needed to fulfill its mission to end violence against women. The Volunteer and Staff Development Coordinator’s goals are to enhance volunteer engagement in Sakhi’s mission to end violence and to support employee skills development, training, productivity, and retention. The successful candidate will use their knowledge of human resources as well as strong organizational and collaboration skills to build internal and external relationships, complete projects, and manage the unique challenges and opportunities within a small, community-based non-profit.
The Volunteer and Staff Development Coordinator’s major areas of work include:
Staff development
- Develop, administer, and implement benefits programs and communication materials; serve as point of contact to field employee benefits questions;
- Manage staff recruitment, orientation, training, and performance measurement/appraisal system;
- Develop staff skills-building opportunities; and,
- Track, maintain, and report human resources information; prepare personnel files for audit; process payroll; provide employee verification; evaluate and report on benefits programs.
Internship and volunteer program coordination
- Intern recruitment and placement: Craft descriptions and post for open internships and volunteer positions; respond to internship and volunteer requests; compile applications; set up interviews; inform applicants, etc.;
- Intern training: Set up orientation (usually 3 times a year) for new interns and facilitate ongoing trainings for interns and volunteers as necessary;
- Intern and volunteer tracking: Ensure time sheets and reports are compiled and files maintained;
- Volunteer communications: Send weekly volunteer update; organize volunteer meetings; and,
- Program management: Coordinate with program supervisors to ensure intern and volunteer response for program needs; develop and implement a database to track and report on intern and volunteer contributions; report; facilitate intern and volunteer recognition.
Required Qualifications
- Experience managing volunteers, interns, and human resources issues.
- Prior knowledge of principles and practices of human resources and a bachelor’s in a human resources field is preferred.
- Ability to think creatively and quickly and to present complex topics.
- Experience working with multiple staff, volunteers, and program responsibilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and leadership qualities.
- Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work well under pressure and juggle multiple time-sensitive tasks.
- Experience with community-based work. Capacity and desire to work with diverse constituencies, a commitment to public interest, a great sense of humor, and a can-do attitude is a must.
Salary range in the 30s depending on experience. Health benefits available.
